As they came from the Gu family, they were also known as "Gu embroidery", which was one of the several distinctive embroidery styles in the country at that time.
鸦片战争期间，上海为加强海防而设立火药局，火药仓库就建在露香园内，1842年4月18日，火药仓库突然爆炸，露香园被夷为平地，此园遂废。人民路附近有露香园路、青莲街、阜春街，万竹街等路，均由露香园景点名称而来。
